A very interesting application for the composite materials is the possibility to manufacture temporary ground anchors which can be tensioned through the use of a common hydraulic jack.
Temporary ground anchors manufactured in glass fibre have superior features compared to steel anchors, some of the most important are: no need of corrosion protection, high strength, light weight, possibility to roll them in coils, excellent insulation properties, transparent to electromagnetic fields.
Moreover, thanks to their low resilience, glass fibre anchors can be left in place without the need to pull them off the ground. In case some further excavation has to be carried out to a later stage, glass
fibre anchors can be demolished during the excavation phases by means of common fittings such as: excavator, hammer, road header or TBM.
Another important advantage is the light weight of the glass fibre, which allows the anchor to be handled and installed on the jobsite without the need of special cranes or lifter; thus reducing
installation time and number of workers.
It worth to remind that composite ground anchors manufactured by Sireg are delivered on jobsite already assembled.
